You have the option of registering by submitting a regular voter registration form or a Federal Post Card Application. The registration deadline is 30 days prior to an election. An absentee ballot may be requested up to 7 days prior to an election if you are already registered.

Local election officials mail absentee ballots beginning approximately 46 days before an election.

Return your ballot
Voted ballots for uniformed service families and overseas citizens must be postmarked no later than Election Day and received by the local election official by 5:00 PM no more than ten days after the election. Voted ballots for uniformed service members must be executed no later than Election Day and received by the ballot return deadline.
Note: FVAP-recommended mailing dates for voted ballots in 2012:
From Iraq, Afghanistan, deployed naval vessels: 4 weeks before the election.
From other overseas military installations: 3 weeks before the election.
From other overseas locations: 4 weeks before the election (depending on foreign mail service).
From within the United States: 1 week before the election.
