Any member of the Uniformed Services who is qualified to vote absentee and returns to North Carolina after the registration deadline may still register and vote in person up to and including Election Day.

Apply for an absentee ballot
Local election officials send absentee ballots approximately 60 days before general elections and 50 days before statewide primary elections.

Return your ballot
A ballot will also be counted if it is transmitted by 12:01 a.m. on the day of the election (voter time) and received by the last business day before the county canvass (the 10th day after the general election.
Note: FVAP-recommended mailing dates for voted ballots in 2012:
From Iraq, Afghanistan, deployed naval vessels: 4 weeks before the election.
From other overseas military installations: 3 weeks before the election.
From other overseas locations: 4 weeks before the election (depending on foreign mail service).
From within the United States: 1 week before the election.
