Register to vote
Voter registration applications must be received by a local election official on or before November 6, 2012 for military voters and October 22, 2012 for other overseas citizens.

Apply for an absentee ballot
Local election officials send ballots approximately 45 days before primary and general elections.

Return your ballot
Voted ballots must be received by your local election office no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day.
Note: FVAP-recommended mailing dates for voted ballots in 2012:
From Iraq, Afghanistan, deployed naval vessels: 4 weeks before the election.
From other overseas military installations: 3 weeks before the election.
From other overseas locations: 4 weeks before the election (depending on foreign mail service).
From within the United States: 1 week before the election.
